KNEC Online Training in Item Writing for Teachers

The Kenya National Examinations Council (KNEC) invites qualified teachers teaching at Senior School and Vocational Level to apply for an online training in Item Writing.

The training will focus on developing quality test items for Competency Based Assessment (CBA).

The training is scheduled to take place from 12th to 30th October 2026.

Participants who successfully complete the training will be certified and may, from time to time, be engaged by KNEC in assessment-related activities as the need arises.

Minimum Requirements

Applicants must:

1. Possess unquestionable integrity and an irreproachable professional record.
2. Be a qualified professional, expert or subject specialist in the subject for which they wish to be trained.
3. Be currently teaching the subject applied for at either:
   • Senior School; or
   • Stage-Based Curriculum: Vocational Level.
4. Hold relevant academic and professional qualifications in their subject or learning area.
5. Be conversant with the curriculum designs for their subject(s) or learning area(s) of specialization.
6. Have a minimum of one (1) year teaching experience.
7. Be duly registered with the Teachers Service Commission (TSC).
8. Be formally recommended by the head of institution.

Training Benefits

Teachers who successfully complete the training will:

• Receive certification from KNEC.
• Become eligible for possible engagement by KNEC in assessment-related activities as the need arises.

Teachers who have already been trained by KNEC in item writing are advised not to apply.
