The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially launched a large-scale recruitment drive to fill temporary positions for the upcoming by-elections.
The commission is seeking patriotic, non-partisan, and tech-savvy Kenyans to serve as Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers, Voter Educators, Support Electoral Trainers, and Clerks.
Successful applicants will work in their respective constituencies and wards, earning competitive daily wages ranging from Ksh. 1,000 to Ksh. 2,000.

1. Presiding Officer (PO)
Daily Wage: Kshs. 2,000 Location: Ol Kalou Constituency
Duties and Responsibilities
- Overall in‑charge at the polling station
- Demarcates and lays out the polling station
- Ensures the safety and use of KIEMS kits
- Runs network connectivity tool on KIEMS at 5:30 AM
- Opens/closes polling station voting period on KIEMS
- Transmits election results electronically to tallying centers
- Posts a copy of results at the polling station
- Delivers results to the Constituency Returning Officer
Requirements
- Kenyan citizen of high integrity, non-partisan
- Degree or Diploma from a recognized institution
- Computer literate
- Effective communication and report writing skills
- Skills in data computation and people management
- Resident of Ol Kalou Constituency
- Available for the entire by-election period
2. Deputy Presiding Officer (DPO)
Daily Wage: Kshs. 1,800 Location: Ol Kalou Constituency
The Deputy Presiding Officer will deputize the PO in all the above duties. Requirements are the same as for Presiding Officer.
3. Voter Educator
Daily Wage: Kshs. 2,000 (Constituency) / Kshs. 1,500 (Ward) Location: Constituency/Ward
Duties and Responsibilities
- Receive and distribute voter education materials
- Map and engage state/non-state partners (CSOs, FBOs, media)
- Conduct voter education via face-to-face and social media
- Represent the Returning Officer in partner forums
- Address public concerns
- Compile and submit voter education reports
Requirements
- Resident of the constituency where by-election is taking place
- Must speak the main local language of the electoral unit
- Diploma or degree in Social Sciences, Project Management, or equivalent
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in voter education, community mobilization, or social work
- Proven report writing skills
- Working knowledge of computers, social media, and digital platforms
- Must NOT be engaged in any other job during the contract period
4. Support Electoral Trainer (SET)
Daily Wage: Kshs. 2,000 Location: Constituency
Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in training Presiding Officers, Deputy Presiding Officers, and Clerks
- Prepare training venues and materials
- Perform duties of PO or DPO as assigned
- Supervise lower-level cluster training
- Compile electoral training reports
- Implement IEBC training plans
- Secure and distribute training materials

- Proven and demonstrated training skills

5. Clerk (Polling/Tallying/Queuing/Charging)

Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in laying out polling station and counting room
- Demarcate and display posters
- Control queues and guide voters
- Ensure KIEMS kits are fully charged
- Check voters’ fingers for indelible marks
- Identify voters and issue stamped ballot papers
- Assist Presiding Officer with vote sorting
