Clinical Trials Unit (CTU) is a Department dedicated to develop a center of excellence for high quality and high impact clinical trials both nationally & internationally. The Department promotes AKU’s vision by providing leadership, consultation, and facilitation in different phases of clinical trials in compliance with the International Standards and Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines.
This is a grant-funded contractual position.
Responsibilities:
You will be responsible to:

perform venipuncture and capillary blood collection in accordance with established protocols and patient safety standards

ensure proper patient identification, specimen labelling, and documentation to maintain accuracy and traceability
-
handle, store, and transport specimens in compliance with laboratory requirements and biosafety guidelines
-
provide pre- and post-procedure guidance to patients to ensure comfort and a positive experience
-
maintain cleanliness and readiness of the phlebotomy area, including equipment sterilisation and stock management
-
adhere to infection prevention and control practices at all times
-
assist in coordinating with laboratory staff to ensure the timely processing of samples
-
document procedures and maintain records in accordance with institutional and regulatory requirements
-
comply with and promote adherence to unit policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards
-
engage in continuing education, training, and skill development.
Requirements:
You should have:
-
intermediate with a laboratory technician diploma
-
at least three years of relevant experience in a laboratory or hospital setting
-
certification as a phlebotomist or technologist with relevant work experience
-
sound knowledge of biochemistry and analytical/laboratory equipment
-
working knowledge of good clinical practice (GCP) and good laboratory practices (GLP)
-
experience of working on research studies, which will be considered an added advantage
-
knowledge of specimen handling, biomaterials management, and health and safety practices
-
familiarity with basic laboratory equipment and scientific techniques relevant to the role
-
good interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal, in English and Urdu
-
strong organisational skills with the ability to manage multiple studies simultaneously
-
proficiency in using computers and standard office software
-
knowledge of medical terminology, which will be considered an asset
-
ability to maintain strict confidentiality in accordance with unit policies.
