Overview

The successful candidate will direct and coordinate all Welfare and Self-Reliance activities and help those who are in need, willing to be worthy, and willing to work to provide for themselves and their families the temporal and spiritual necessities of life, or self-reliance. Reports to and receives strategic and operational guidance from the Area Welfare/Self-Reliance Manager. The candidate will support leaders in addressing many welfare self-reliance needs of members by traveling throughout the defined service area, developing and cultivating contacts and relationships of influence with employers, educational, self-employment and other community resources.

Self-Reliance is the ability to provide the necessities of life for ourselves and our family members.

The SRS manager is to seek personal revelation and proactively:

  1. Focus on priorities of the First Presidency and Area Presidency
  2. Achieve self-reliance objectives as outlined in the Annual Area Self-Reliance Plan*
  3. Support Area Seventies, those with priesthood keys, and Stake Self-Reliance Committees
  4. Develop and share a network of resources that will bless members

These purposes are accomplished by:

  • Proactively identifying challenges, raising issues, making recommendations for solutions and influencing priesthood leaders in support of self-reliance efforts in a designated geographic area.
  • Providing logistical support and ensuring delivery of standard services including assessments, individualized mentoring, training, materials, and resources to stake self-reliance resource centers and groups.
  • Cultivating relationships with senior business, educational, financial, government, and community leaders; coordinate with vocational/technical training and educational institutions; works with banks, micro credit, NGOs, and other financial institutions, all for the purpose of linking un/underemployed members to needed resources.
  • Leading assigned full-time missionaries, church-service missionaries, and volunteers in supporting self-reliance efforts. Reports to the Area Self-Reliance Manager.

Responsibilities

  • Support Church leaders in implementing and maintaining self-reliance initiatives, including setting goals, training group facilitators, and providing ongoing evaluation and materials.

  • Facilitate general and specialized welfare and self-reliance training for local Church leaders and collaborating community organizations, covering new leader onboarding, resource updates, digital tools, and other relevant topics.

  • Travel throughout the defined service area, build and maintain strong relationships with employers, educational institutions, government agencies, community organizations, and self-employment networks to ensure access to resources that meet local needs.

  • Act as the primary point of contact for local leaders regarding urgent welfare needs, preventative efforts, and emergency or humanitarian requests.

  • Provide technical training, mentorship, and ongoing support to ward and stake self-reliance specialists.

  • Monitor and report on the effectiveness of self-reliance tools, resources, and services, ensuring continuous improvement.

  • Complete administrative duties including regular progress and expense reports, along with other assigned responsibilities.

Requirements

  • Must hold a current / valid temple recommend

  • Bachelor’s Degree (master’s degree preferred) in business, sales, marketing or related discipline or equivalent combination of education and experience

  • Minimum of five (5) years of professional experience including demonstrated success working with mid- to upper-level management and with entrepreneurial start-ups, sales, marketing, or other business development roles

  • Demonstrated abilities to train large groups of people and to develop others in coaching/mentoring relationship

  • Leadership experience including application and understanding of welfare principles and the ability to properly influence Priesthood and Relief Society leaders

  • Knowledge of laws and government regulations pertaining to employment and labor standards

  • Must have a high level of analytical and creative skills, the ability to communicate complex ideas verbally and in writing

  • Willingness to travel extensively and work in a mobile office

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively work independently and as a team member to achieve organizational and customer goals

  • Demonstrated ability to professionally present self through in-person interactions, verbal, and written communication

  • Must possess strong financial and business acumen and must be proficient in the use of computers and associated packages and MS Programs

  • Has a valid driver's license with the ability to obtain a passport if/when necessary
