About Apex Ventures

Apex Ventures is a venture capital and advisory firm that backs early-stage startups in fintech, agritech, and healthtech across Sub-Saharan Africa. Established in 2016 in Nairobi, Apex has deployed capital into more than forty companies and supports founders with hands-on operational guidance, board placement, and access to its network of over two hundred mentors and industry experts. The firm manages three funds totalling USD 75 million and typically invests between USD 100,000 and USD 2 million at seed and Series A stages. Apex Ventures also runs a six-month accelerator programme twice a year, accepting ten to fifteen startups per cohort.

What you will do:

You will develop and implement the company's marketing strategy, manage the marketing budget, and oversee all marketing activities including advertising, events, sponsorships, and brand partnerships. The role involves conducting market research and competitor analysis to identify opportunities and threats, developing positioning and messaging for target customer segments, and measuring the return on investment of marketing activities. You will manage relationships with advertising agencies, media houses, and event organisers, and coordinate with the sales team to ensure that marketing efforts align with revenue targets. The position requires strong project management skills, the ability to lead a team, and experience in both traditional and digital marketing channels.

Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in a relevant discipline; a Master's degree is an added advantage
Minimum 5 years of progressive experience, with at least 2 years in a supervisory role
Demonstrated leadership and team management capabilities
Strategic thinking with the ability to translate organisational goals into actionable plans
Professional certification in the relevant field (e.g. CPA, PMP, CIPS, or equivalent)
Experience managing budgets and reporting to senior leadership
Strong negotiation, presentation, and stakeholder engagement skills
