Toll Attendant

Job Overview

A Toll Attendant is responsible for collecting toll fees from motorists, providing customer assistance, and ensuring smooth and efficient traffic flow at toll plazas along the Nairobi Expressway.

The role requires excellent customer service skills, accuracy in cash handling, basic computer skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced outdoor environment.

Key Responsibilities

  1. Collect toll payments through cash, credit/debit cards, and electronic payment methods.
  2. Issue receipts and provide correct change where necessary.
  3. Verify electronic toll passes and resolve payment discrepancies.
  4. Maintain accurate transaction records and reconcile cash drawers at the end of each shift.
  5. Provide directions and basic travel information to motorists.
  6. Report equipment malfunctions, traffic incidents, and suspicious activities to supervisors.
  7. Ensure compliance with company policies, safety regulations, and operational procedures.
  8. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the toll booth area.
  9. Work diligently and follow management instructions and company requirements.

Required Skills and Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree, Diploma, or equivalent professional qualification from a recognized and accredited institution.
  • Professional experience in computers and accounting is preferred.
  • Basic IT and computer skills.
  • Previous experience in customer service, cashiering, or cash handling is preferred.
  • Basic mathematics and strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to operate computerized toll systems and point-of-sale equipment.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work flexible shifts, including nights, weekends, and public holidays.
  • Ability to stand or sit for extended periods and work under varying weather conditions.
  • Ability to work hard and comply with company management requirements.
