Night Fire Destroys Dormitory at Eor Ekule Secondary School in Narok East
NAROK, Kenya – A fire razed a dormitory at Eor Ekule Secondary School in Narok East, Narok County, on Wednesday night, though no injuries were reported.
The incident occurred at approximately 8:57 PM while students were attending evening preps, according to a statement by Narok Senator Ledama Olekina.
The Narok East security team responded swiftly and contained the blaze before it could spread to other parts of the school. The fire completely destroyed the Loita dormitory.
“Thankfully, there are no casualties; however, the Loita dormitory sustained destruction,” Senator Olekina said. “School authorities and security teams remain on site conducting investigations and overseeing student safety and welfare.”
The senator assured parents and the local community that all students are safe and that measures are being taken to address the needs of those affected by the loss of the dormitory.
Authorities have launched an investigation to determine the cause of the fire.
The incident marks the sixth school fire reported in Kenya since the tragic blaze at Utumishi Girls’ Academy on May 28, 2026, which claimed the lives of 16 students. It also comes just days after another fire outbreak at Tarakwo High School in Bomet County on the night of June 1, 2026.
According to the Kenya Red Cross, a total of 37 school fire incidents have been recorded and responded to across multiple counties since the beginning of 2026, raising fresh concerns over safety standards in learning institutions.
