IEBC Opens Recruitment for New Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer
The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has officially announced the recruitment of a new Commission Secretary and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), inviting qualified Kenyans to apply for one of the country’s most senior public service positions.

Role of the Commission Secretary and CEO
The successful candidate will serve as the Commission’s Chief Executive Officer and Accounting Officer, with overall responsibility for implementing the Commission’s policies and managing its day-to-day operations.
Key responsibilities include:
- Implementing resolutions made by the Commission.
- Providing strategic leadership and direction to staff.
- Managing the Commission’s administrative and financial functions.
- Safeguarding official records and institutional assets.
- Ensuring efficient, transparent, and accountable service delivery.
- Supporting the Commission in fulfilling its constitutional mandate.
Qualifications
Applicants must meet the constitutional requirements for holders of public office and possess the qualifications prescribed under the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission Act and other relevant laws.

Clearance Requirements

- Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
- Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
- A registered Credit Reference Bureau (CRB)

Vacancy Follows Departure of Former CEO
The position became vacant following the departure of former Commission Secretary and CEO Marjan Hussein Marjan earlier this year.
Since then, Moses Ledama Sunkuli has been serving in an acting capacity as the Commission awaits the appointment of a substantive office holder.
Under the IEBC Act, the Commission Secretary serves a four-year term, which is renewable only once.
