Data Center Engineer – Power, Cooling& Infrastructure at Equity Bank Kenya
Key Responsibilities
1. Data Center Power Infrastructure Management
-
Manage and maintain UPS systems, battery banks, and power distribution units (PDUs) across data centers, campuses, and branches.
-
Monitor UPS performance and conduct regular health checks, preventive maintenance, and load testing.
-
Coordinate battery replacement cycles and capacity planning.
-
Ensure compliance with power redundancy standards (N+1, 2N architecture).
2. Generator and Power Backup Systems
-
Manage data center generators, automatic transfer switches (ATS), and fuel systems.
-
Conduct routine generator testing and preventive maintenance.
-
Coordinate with vendors for servicing, repairs, and system upgrades.
-
Ensure continuous power availability during outages.
3. Cooling and Environmental Systems
-
Manage precision cooling systems, CRAC/CRAH units, and HVAC infrastructure.
-
Monitor temperature, humidity, and airflow within data centers.
-
Implement hot aisle / cold aisle containment best practices.
-
Ensure optimal environmental conditions for server and network equipment.
4. Structured Cabling Infrastructure

Design and manage structured cabling systems including:

Fiber optic cabling
-
Copper cabling (Cat6/Cat6A)
-
Patch panels and racks
-

Ensure proper cable routing, labeling, and documentation.
-
Maintain cabling standards across data centers, campuses, and branches.
5. Data Center Facilities Management
-
Monitor data center environmental monitoring systems.
-
Ensure proper rack layout, power allocation, and equipment placement.
-
Manage capacity planning for power, space, and cooling.
-
Maintain data center physical infrastructure documentation
6. Preventive Maintenance and Vendor Management
-
Coordinate with vendors for maintenance of UPS, generators, cooling systems, and electrical infrastructure.

Manage service contracts and maintenance schedules.
-
Ensure compliance with service level agreements (SLAs).
7. Incident Response and Troubleshooting
-
Respond to power, cooling, and infrastructure failures.
-
Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions.
-
Ensure minimal downtime for critical IT systems.
8. Compliance and Safety
-
Ensure compliance with data center standards and safety regulations.
-
Maintain electrical safety procedures and operational guidelines.
-
Support audit and compliance requirements.
Required Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in one of the following fields:

Electrical Engineering
-
Electronics Engineering
-
Computer Engineering
-
Information Technology
-
Telecommunications Engineering
Experience
-
3 years of experience in Data Center Infrastructure or Facilities Management.

Experience managing:
-
UPS systems
-
Generators
-
Cooling systems
-
Structured cabling
-
Experience in banking or enterprise data centers is an added advantage.
