Job Description

Assists business unit management to develop their risk management strategy & policy in accordance with the Audit Risk & Compliance Committee's approved risk appetite & segment requirements. Manages implementation of Policy Statements, supporting guidance & procedures within area of responsibility. Ensures that risk processes (risk assessment, identification, management, reporting & optimisation) are implemented at business unit level.

Responsibilities

Financial Management and Control

Develop and/or deliver a plan for significant aspects of the financial management and/or control process.

Data Collection and Analysis

Make authoritative recommendations that have a significant impact on the business over the short and long term. Recommendations could be technical or professional in nature.

Policies and Procedures Development

Draft policies, procedures, and related guidelines within an area of expertise to meet defined key principles and ensure compliance with external requirements.

Organizational Risk Management

Develop and/or deliver a contingency plan for significant aspects of the risk management and/or risk control processes.

Risk Scenario Modeling

Analyze, assess, and quantify the risks associated with products, individual applications, business activities, and the market to determine whether any risk is within the agreed risk appetite. Undertake tactical risk modeling.

Recommendations

Recommend changes to policies, processes, standards, and practices that would improve operational support.

Insights and Reporting

Contribute to the design and creation of reporting strategies and templates. Lead execution of complex reports, identifying and interpreting complex patterns and trends, and translating those insights into actionable recommendations.

Document Preparation

Write and edit material for various target populations, tailoring the tone and content to match the needs and expectations of each audience.

Operational Compliance

Monitor and review performance and behaviors within area of responsibility to identify and resolve noncompliance with the organization's policies and relevant regulatory codes and codes of conduct.

Personal Capability Building

Act as subject matter expert in an area of technology, policy, regulation, or operational management for the team. Maintain external accreditations and in-depth understanding of current and emerging external regulation and industry best practices through continuing professional development, attending conferences, and reading specialist media.

To oversee the Corporate Segment business’s risk management and regulatory compliance function by implementing and maintaining effective risk and compliance frameworks. The role ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, policies, and industry standards while promoting a strong risk-aware culture and supporting the achievement of strategic business objectives.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Namibian citizenship.
  • Bachelor's degree in law (LL.B or B. Proc), Commerce, or equivalent qualification at NQF Level 7.
  • Minimum of 3 years' experience in a compliance environment within the financial services sector.
  • Knowledge of the non-banking financial institutions sector will be an added advantage.
  • Strong communication, presentation, conflict resolution, and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining high service standards.
  • Self-driven, assertive, and results-oriented individual.
  • A collaborative team player with strong stakeholder management capabilities

Key Responsibilities

Risk Management

  • Implement and maintain the enterprise risk management framework.
  • Facilitate risk identification, assessment, monitoring, and reporting across the business.
  • Maintain risk registers and oversee the development and monitoring of mitigation plans.
  • Conduct risk assessments and monitor key risk indicators and emerging risks.
  • Promote a culture of effective risk management throughout the organization.

Regulatory Compliance

  • Maintain and enhance the compliance management framework.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, regulations, industry standards, and internal policies.
  • Monitor regulatory developments and assess potential business impacts.
  • Coordinate regulatory inspections and engagements.
  • Provide expert advice to management on compliance and regulatory matters.

Financial Crime and AML Compliance

  • Oversee the implementation of AML and financial crime risk management programmes.
  • Investigate compliance breaches, suspicious transactions, sanctions alerts, and related matters.
  • Engage with regulators and key stakeholders on financial crime and AML requirements.
  • Ensure timely escalation and resolution of material compliance concerns.

Governance, Audit and Assurance

  • Support governance structures through effective reporting and oversight.
  • Act as the primary liaison for Internal Audit, External Audit, and regulatory reviews.
  • Monitor the implementation and closure of audit findings and corrective actions.
  • Strengthen internal controls and governance processes through continuous improvement initiatives.

Privacy and Data Protection

  • Monitor compliance with privacy and data protection requirements.
  • Coordinate Privacy Impact Assessments and manage privacy risk registers.
  • Oversee the investigation and remediation of privacy incidents.
  • Provide guidance on privacy legislation and information management practices.

SOP Governance and Oversight

  • Drive governance over Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Ensure business processes are adequately documented, approved, and maintained.
  • Coordinate SOP reviews and updates in line with regulatory and operational requirements.
  • Monitor adherence to approved SOPs and address identified gaps.

Training and Stakeholder Management

  • Deliver and coordinate risk and compliance awareness initiatives.
  • Promote ethical conduct and a strong compliance culture.
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Represent the Corporate Segment in key forums, governance committees, and projects.
