Key Responsibilities
1. Strategic Alignment & Portfolio Vision
-
Maintain a clear portfolio vision aligned to business strategy, market needs, and enterprise priorities.

Translate strategic themes into portfolio‑level priorities and ensure alignment across sponsors, ARTs, and delivery teams.

Ensure all work entering the portfolio meets strategic relevance and clear value justification.
2. Lean Portfolio Management (LPM)
-
Lead the Portfolio Kanban including intake, triage, prioritization, readiness assessments, and sequencing of work.

Support development and review of Lean Business Cases, including problem statements, value hypotheses, dependencies, risks, and financial impacts.

Ensure Epic Owners and business partners meet intake, refinement, and definition standards before passing items to solutioning and delivery.
3. Governance & Portfolio Operations

Facilitate or support portfolio ceremonies: Portfolio Syncs, prioritization rounds, readiness reviews, and quarterly or PI‑aligned governance checkpoints.

Track portfolio progress, risks, dependencies, and financial adherence across all initiatives.

Provide structured portfolio reporting and insights to senior leadership, highlighting constraints, trade‑offs, and required decisions.
4. Intake Management & Prioritization

Own and continuously improve the intake process to ensure submissions meet quality standards and reflect business urgency, value, and feasibility.

Apply prioritization criteria (strategic alignment, value, risk, dependencies, capacity) to determine what moves forward.
5. Execution Oversight & Dependency Management
-
Support ARTs and Epic Owners by ensuring approved portfolio items are clearly communicated, properly sequenced, and aligned prior to PI Planning.

Monitor flow of Epics across teams and ARTs, ensuring dependencies are understood and mitigation plans exist.

Escalate systemic risks, blockers, or resource constraints impacting delivery.
6. Metrics, Transparency & Value Realization

Establish and track portfolio KPIs including flow metrics, delivery predictability, value delivery, cycle time, and work in process.

Ensure each Epic has measurable success criteria and value metrics; support post‑delivery reviews and benefits realization.

Provide data‑driven insights for strategic adjustments, capacity balancing, and investment shifts.
7. Leadership, Stakeholder Influence & Collaboration

Serve as a trusted advisor to senior leaders on portfolio health, strategic trade‑offs, risks, and investment recommendations.

Build strong working relationships across business, technology, operations, finance, and transformation teams.

Coach and support Epic Owners, PMs, Product Managers, and contributing teams in lean‑agile portfolio practices.

Demonstrate leadership behaviours: ownership, proactive problem‑solving, influence without authority, structured communication, and high accountability.
Experience & Qualifications
Essential
-
6 – 10 years of experience in strategy execution, portfolio management, program delivery, or a similar role.
-
Strong knowledge of SAFe, Agile delivery, Lean Portfolio Management, and value‑stream‑based operating models.
-
Demonstrated experience supporting or leading multiple, complex initiatives concurrently.

Exceptional stakeholder management and communication skills, with ability to engage senior leaders.

Proficiency in portfolio tools (e.g., Jira, Azure DevOps, reporting dashboards) and strong analytical skills.
Desirable
-
SAFe certifications (LPM, Leading SAFe, SPC, or POPM), and/or PMI certifications in Portfolio and program management
-
Experience in healthcare or insurance industries.

Understanding of financial analysis, portfolio cost modelling, and investment governance.
-
Ability to coach teams and influence operating model evolution.
