Aga Khan University invites applications for the position of Registered Nurse in the Department of Student Health.

Responsibilities:

You will be responsible to:

  • Complete initial assessment of all registered patients/ students/employees and explain waiting time to patients (as need arises).

  • Follow international patient safety goals (IPSG) in patient care.

  • Access critical patients on stretchers and wheelchairs in the waiting area on every round of call, identify changes in patients’ condition and communicate to physicians in timely manners.

  • Assist doctor while performing procedures, examination, and tele-clinic.

  • Participate actively in patient/family & staff education with the assistance of Clinical Nurse Instructor.

  • Administer medication safety and report related incidents properly.

  • Raise medical/surgical supplies charging slip accordingly and handover to receptionist for charging.

  • Ensure comprehensive and complete nursing documents as per nursing quality standards.

  • Demonstrate knowledge and skills in handling high risk patients/services.

  • Perform unit specific procedures independently.

  • Follow admission/transfer/disposition process according to hospital protocol.

  • Follow patient safety and quality care standards of patient care.

  • Maintain and ensure medical/surgical supplies stock at required level and carry out special assignment.

  • Demonstrate safe handling and proper use of equipment/supplies and report to head nurse/team leader in case of any malfunctioning.

  • Participate in unit-based quality improvement projects/CUSP activities.

  • Report incident on timely basis.

  • Supervise the clinical practice of nursing students and novice staff and guides accordingly.

  • Update own skills by attending certification and recertification courses as per credentialing requirement.

  • Assist in handling cardiac arrest situations.

  • Demonstrate leadership qualities to become a team leader.

  • Coordinate with Registrar’s/ Human Resources office for newly enrolled/hired students/employees for the pre-admission/employment medical examination process.

  • Deal with students’/ employees’ medical leave and their verification if needed.

  • Facilitate job injury cases of employees.

  • Maintain immunization record of the student/staff.

  • Deal with students/employee exposure to needle stick injury or infection diseases.

  • Engage in activities involving any pandemic/emergent needs.

  • Maintain records of relevant tasks related to Student/Employee Health.

  • Participate in Student/ Employee Health and Wellness program.

  • Participate in annual screening of the students/staff when indicated and provide fitness clearance to their department heads.

  • Implement mass vaccination if any outbreak in coordination with DIPHE.

  • Maintain statistical records as appropriate.

  • Attend student/ employee health committee meetings and maintain meeting minutes.

  • Any other related task assigned by supervisor.

Requirements:

You should have:

  • Current registration from Pakistan Nursing Council

  • Graduate from a recognized school of nursing (BScN)

  • Certification in:

    • Basic life support

    • Safe medication administration

    • Intravenous cannulation

    • Procedural sedation (as per applicable)

    • Service excellence

    • Facility management and safety

    • Workplace harassment policy awareness

    • Personal security awareness

    • FAHM E-Module

    • Completion of one year nursing internship or minimum two year of experience in clinical setting.

Comprehensive employment reference checks will be conducted.
