IEBC Announces 12,520 Temporary Jobs for Nationwide Voter Registration; How to Apply

The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) has opened applications for 12,520 temporary positions to support a 30-day Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration (ECVR) exercise at the ward level across the country.

In a public notice issued on Wednesday, February 25, the commission confirmed that the recruitment aims to augment and reinforce the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration currently being conducted at constituency offices.

Available Positions and Vacancies

The commission is seeking qualified candidates for three categories of temporary roles:

  • Voter Registration Assistants: 1,450 vacancies

  • Voter Registration Clerks: 10,780 vacancies

  • ICT Clerks: 290 vacancies

Successful candidates will earn approximately Ksh2,000 per day for the duration of the assignment.

Roles and Responsibilities

Voter Registration Assistants will supervise Voter Registration Clerks at the ward level, assist in planning KIEMS kit movement schedules, collate and submit voter registration data, ensure security of materials and equipment, and report registration progress while ensuring wards meet their targets.

Voter Registration Clerks will operate biometric registration kits (KIEMS/VIU tablets), verify applicant eligibility, guide applicants through registration procedures, assist in filling registration forms, ensure safe custody of equipment and data, and transmit voter data daily to Registration Officers.

ICT Clerks will set up, configure and operate KIEMS kits and related ICT equipment, provide first-level technical support and troubleshooting, support secure transmission and backup of voter data, maintain ICT logs and equipment records, and assist in training registration officials on basic ICT operations.

Qualifications

General Requirements for All Applicants:

  • Kenyan citizenship

  • Minimum KCSE C- (minus) or equivalent

  • Computer literacy and ICT skills

  • Demonstrated integrity, accountability and confidentiality

Additional Requirements by Position:

Voter Registration Assistants must be at least 21 years old, residents of the constituency/ward they are applying for, hold a minimum Diploma in ICT or related field, and demonstrate ability to communicate effectively in English and Kiswahili.

Voter Registration Clerks must be aged 19 years and above. A Diploma in ICT, Statistics, Education, or Business Administration will be an added advantage.

ICT Clerks require a Certificate or Diploma in Information Technology, Computer Science, or Information Systems, plus basic knowledge of computer hardware, software, and networking.

Important Note

Applicants must not have held office or stood for election as a candidate or party agent in the last five years.

The commission has warned that any canvassing will lead to automatic disqualification, emphasizing that IEBC is an Equal Opportunity Employer.

Selection

Shortlisted candidates will be required to present copies of their National Identification Card, academic certificates, and any other relevant testimonials.

Successful applicants will undergo mandatory training and take an oath of secrecy before deployment to their respective wards.

The Enhanced Continuous Voter Registration exercise is designed to take services closer to citizens, making it easier for eligible Kenyans to register as voters . The initiative forms part of the Commission’s wider mandate under Article 88 of the Constitution, which requires continuous voter registration at all 290 constituency offices.

IEBC Chairperson Erastus Ethekon has previously stated that the ongoing registration campaign targets increasing the voter roll from the current 22.1 million to capture an estimated 6.3 million additional voters . The commission has set aside Sh8 billion to support the registration drive, with additional allocations for voter education programmes, replacement of KIEMS kits, and maintenance of the registration system.
