The available positions are Project Officer for Child Protection based in Samburu County and Project Officer for Health based in Garissa and Wajir counties.

Project Officer – Child Protection
Location: Samburu County

Purpose of the Position
The Project Officer will provide technical leadership and guide the successful implementation of child protection interventions focused on female genital mutilation (FGM) and child marriage. The role is part of the WVUS-funded Kenya Big Dream project being implemented in Marsabit County.
The project aims to empower households to protect, nurture, and support girls and boys from all forms of abuse and improve child wellbeing outcomes.
The officer will ensure effective community mobilisation, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of interventions related to awareness of the negative effects of child marriage and FGM. This includes promoting adoption of social norms that prohibit these practices, integrating Alternative Rites of Passage that are communally accepted, strengthening local anti-FGM movements among women, men, girls, boys, youth, and circumcisers, and empowering communities to create safe environments for children.
Key Responsibilities
Project Design, Planning and Implementation:
The officer will facilitate adoption of best practices in child protection and gender integration within the project. They will ensure business processes, standards, and guidelines are effectively applied. They will participate in preparing work plans and budgets, develop activity plans for child protection activities, and collaborate with county government ministries and partners to ensure high-level implementation.
The officer will support the establishment of well-coordinated child protection and anti-FGM collaborative networks among government and non-governmental institutions. They will contextualise design guidelines, ensure compliance with donor standards, and lead development of quality annual work plans and detailed implementation plans.
Monitoring, Reporting and Documentation:
The officer will support monitoring and evaluation of child protection activities, conduct routine data collection on project indicators, and provide technical feedback to the Program Manager. They will build capacity of project resource persons and stakeholders including community-based organisations, community groups, and children and youth clubs.
They will track and prepare monthly, quarterly, bi-annual, and annual progress reports, including documentation of key lessons learned and success stories. They will also support supply chain by providing technical advice on child protection procurements.
Empowerment and Capacity Building:
The officer will mobilise and sensitise communities for empowerment and program sustainability. They will build capacity of communities and partners on models that facilitate adoption of child protection systems. They will take a lead in building capacity of teachers and children to strengthen prevention and response mechanisms at schools.
Together with partners, they will conduct anti-FGM and child marriage campaigns and open days during international celebrations. They will mobilise, equip, and empower the church, other faith groups, and community-based organisations to integrate child protection interventions.
Advocacy, Engagement, Networks and Partnerships:
The officer will gather quality data to develop technical papers for external engagement with decision makers. They will establish working relationships with government departments relevant to the project at ward, sub-county, and county levels.
They will work with partners and coalitions to engage in advocacy activities with government structures. They will ensure effective mobilisation of community groups, youth, and children, empowering them to hold governments accountable through advocacy approaches such as Citizen Voice and Action and Child Protection Advocacy.
They will represent World Vision Kenya in key child protection stakeholder forums and meetings at ward, sub-county, and county levels, and actively participate in county-level technical working groups.
Resource Acquisition:
The officer will participate in developing timely funding proposals in collaboration with the Project Manager and other sector specialists. They will mobilise community contributions for project interventions and support successful donor visits.
Qualifications and Experience
Required Professional Experience:

Good understanding of international, regional, and national frameworks on human rights for women and children including the Convention on the Rights of the Child, Convention for the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination Against Women, Africa Charter on the Rights and Welfare of Children, Prohibition of Female Genital Mutilation Act, and Children Act

Minimum of 3 years working experience in GBV or FGM projects at community level with proven leadership experience

Experience working with partners including State Department of Gender Affairs, Anti-FGM Board, Children Department, and local organisations

Good understanding of child protection, GBV, and FGM programming models, standards, and guidelines
-
Proven track record as a staff and community trainer in child protection, gender equality and social inclusion, prevention and response to child abuse, sexual and gender-based violence, and other harmful cultural practices

Good understanding and working experience of advocacy approaches and referral systems

Excellent English communication skills, facilitation and training skills, ability to work with minimal supervision

Cross-cultural sensitivity and emotional maturity
Required Education:

Bachelor’s degree in social sciences such as Social Work, Gender Studies, Development Studies, Community Development, Sociology, or equivalent

Good computer skills in MS Office including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge of community change, social norms, engagement of religious leaders, peacebuilding, and gender-responsive programming

Experience in project design, proposal writing, needs assessments, surveys, and information management

Purpose of the Position
Working jointly with the Project Coordinator in the Nourish to Thrive project, the Project Officer will support project implementation and monitoring of maternal, newborn, and child health (MNCH) interventions. The role aims to ensure successful implementation of health interventions focused on improved MNCH outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
Programmatic and Technical Support:
The officer will participate in planning, implementation, and monitoring of MNCH activities in accordance with project deliverables. They will ensure the development of work plans and budgets for health activities and take the lead in implementing MNCH interventions.
They will work with existing Ministry of Health structures to ensure integration and alignment of project activities. They will represent World Vision Kenya in county and sub-county maternal and child health technical working groups and other meetings as needed.
The officer will engage with Ministry of Health county and sub-county health management teams to ensure successful implementation of MNCH activities. They will ensure integration of nutrition into health interventions for higher impact and ensure effective integration of project interventions with other World Vision Kenya projects.
Monitoring, Evaluation, Reporting and Documentation:
The officer will utilise maternal and child health national and county monitoring tools and follow set targets and timelines for reporting. They will monitor project interventions in strict adherence to World Vision Kenya and Ministry of Health reporting standards.
They will ensure project data is captured, validated, and updated on World Vision Kenya reporting systems. They will liaise with national office technical specialists for technical support, provide budget oversight, and coordinate development of timely and quality reports.
They will support documentation of lessons learned and project success, and gather quality feedback and data to develop technical papers for external engagement.
Advocacy, Partnerships, Engagement and Networking:
The officer will link and engage with donors and county and sub-county authorities to ensure timely consultation and technical support. They will work with maternal and child health networks and the Ministry of Health for technical direction and leveraging of resources.
They will work with other partners implementing MNCH interventions for synergy and sustainability. They will support and attend stakeholder forums related to MNCH interventions.
Capacity Building:
The officer will participate in support supervisions and data review meetings at sub-county levels. They will support health trainings and ensure technical quality of training delivery.
