The County Government of Nyeri has announced a wide range of employment opportunities for qualified Kenyan citizens. The vacancies span multiple departments, including agriculture, livestock, fisheries, health, legal services, finance, information technology, engineering, and valuation.
Nyeri County is described as a leading giant in food production and a key player for the central tourism circuit. The county government is seeking to fill positions at various levels, from entry-level roles to senior leadership positions.

Agricultural Sector Positions
The county government is recruiting several officers to support its agricultural and food production agenda.
Agricultural Officer
This role involves advising farmers on crop production, pest control, soil conservation, and sustainable farming practices. Candidates must have a degree in agriculture or a related field.
Assistant Agricultural Officer III
This entry-level position supports agricultural extension services, working directly with farmers to improve crop yields and adopt modern farming techniques. A diploma in agriculture is required.
Livestock Production Officer
The officer will provide technical advice on animal husbandry, breeding programs, and livestock feed management. A degree in livestock production or animal science is required.
Assistant Livestock Production Officer III
This role supports livestock extension services, helping pastoralist and small-scale farmers improve animal health and productivity. A diploma in livestock production is required.
Animal Health Assistant II
The officer will assist in disease surveillance, vaccination campaigns, and basic animal health services. A certificate or diploma in animal health is required.
Fisheries Officer
This position involves managing fish farming projects, advising on pond construction, and promoting aquaculture as an alternative source of food and income. A degree in fisheries or aquatic sciences is required.
Assistant Fisheries Officer III
The officer will support fish farming extension services and help farmers establish and maintain fish ponds. A diploma in fisheries is required.
Veterinary Officer
This senior role involves diagnosing and treating animal diseases, conducting vaccination drives, and enforcing animal health regulations. A degree in veterinary medicine with registration from the Kenya Veterinary Board is required.
Assistant Animal Health Officer III
This position supports veterinary services in disease control, treatment, and public health awareness. A diploma in animal health is required.
Engineering and Technical Positions
Engineer II (Agricultural)
The officer will design and supervise agricultural infrastructure projects including irrigation systems, farm roads, and post-harvest storage facilities. A degree in agricultural engineering is required.
Inspector (Agriculture)
This role involves inspecting farms, verifying compliance with agricultural regulations, and reporting on crop and livestock conditions. A diploma in agriculture or a related field is required.
Plant Mechanic III
The officer will maintain and repair farm machinery, tractors, and irrigation pumps. A certificate or diploma in plant mechanics is required.
Plant Operator III
This position involves operating heavy machinery and farm equipment for county agricultural projects. Relevant operating certification and experience are required.
Legal and Finance Positions
County Solicitor
This senior legal position provides legal advice to the county government, drafts legislation and contracts, and represents the county in legal proceedings. Candidates must be advocates of the High Court of Kenya with extensive experience in public law.
Legal Officer
The officer will assist the County Solicitor in legal research, contract drafting, and litigation support. An advocate of the High Court with a current practicing certificate is required.
Accountant I
This senior accounting role involves managing county financial records, preparing financial statements, and ensuring compliance with public financial management regulations. A degree in accounting with CPA certification is required.
Accountant II
This mid-level role supports the accounting department in budget execution, payment processing, and financial reporting. A degree or diploma in accounting with CPA progress is required.
Senior Internal Auditor
The officer will lead internal audit teams, assess financial controls, and identify risks in county operations. A degree in accounting or finance with CPA and CISA certifications is required.
Internal Auditor I
This role involves conducting audit assignments, preparing audit reports, and recommending improvements to financial processes. A degree in accounting or finance with CPA certification is required.
Internal Auditor II
This entry-level audit position supports senior auditors in reviewing financial records and compliance. A degree or diploma in accounting is required.
Information Technology Position
Information Communication Technology Officer (Software Developer)
The officer will design, develop, and maintain county government software applications, databases, and digital platforms. Candidates must have a degree in computer science or information technology with proven software development skills in programming languages such as Python, Java, PHP, or JavaScript.
Planning and Performance Position
Performance Analyst/Economist II/Statistician II
This multi-role position involves analyzing county performance data, conducting economic research, and producing statistical reports to inform decision making. A degree in economics, statistics, or a related field is required.
Inspectorate Position
Assistant Inspectorate Officer II
The officer will enforce county by-laws, conduct inspections, and ensure compliance with county regulations. A diploma in criminology, public administration, or a related field is required.
Water and Irrigation Positions
Chief Superintendent Engineer (Irrigation)/Assistant Director, Water and Irrigation
This senior role oversees irrigation projects, water supply systems, and county water infrastructure. Candidates must have a degree in civil or irrigation engineering with extensive experience in water management.
Assistant Engineer II Water and Sewerage
The officer will assist in designing and maintaining water supply and sewerage systems. A degree in civil or water engineering is required.
Inspector Water and Sewerage
This role involves inspecting water and sewerage infrastructure, ensuring compliance with standards, and reporting violations. A diploma in water engineering or a related field is required.
Youth Polytechnic Position
Youth Polytechnic Instructor III
The officer will teach technical and vocational courses at a county youth polytechnic. Candidates must have a diploma or certificate in a technical field such as welding, carpentry, tailoring, or electrical installation, with a relevant teaching qualification.
Valuation and Housing Position
Director Valuation and Housing
This senior role oversees property valuation, housing development, and land management for the county government. Candidates must have a degree in land economics, real estate, or valuation with professional certification and extensive experience.
Medical Positions
Senior Assistant Director of Medical Services/Radiologist
This senior medical position involves managing radiology services, interpreting diagnostic images, and supervising radiology staff. Candidates must have a degree in medicine with specialization in radiology and registration with the Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Council.
Senior Assistant Director of Medical Services/Orthopaedic
This senior role involves treating musculoskeletal conditions, performing orthopaedic surgeries, and managing orthopaedic services at county health facilities. Candidates must have a degree in medicine with specialization in orthopaedics and relevant registration.
Registered Nurse III (Peri-Operative)
The nurse will assist in surgical operations, prepare patients for surgery, maintain sterile environments, and provide post-operative care. Candidates must have a diploma in nursing with specialization in peri-operative nursing and registration with the Nursing Council of Kenya.

About Nyeri County
Nyeri County is one of Kenya’s 47 counties, located in the former Central Province. It borders Laikipia County to the north, Meru County to the east, Kirinyaga County to the southeast, Murang’a County to the south, and Nyandarua County to the west. The county is known for its agricultural productivity, particularly in coffee, tea, dairy, and horticulture.
